Unreleased Ellington recordings Offer a new window into Duke's Band.

Founding Director and Senior Scholar, Loren Schoenberg, shares rare excerpts of the Duke Ellington Orchestra performing live on the radio. Featured are three unreleased tracks from the Savory Archive, available to all for listening at the National Jazz Museum in Harlem.

Loren walks us through:

1) "Diminuendo and Crescendo in Blue" recorded live in 1937, 19 years before the famed Live at Newport recordings that caused such a stir and put Duke on the cover of Time magazine.

2) "Jeep's Blues," featuring saxophonist Johnny Hodges in a 1938 jam session.

3) An extremely rare live performance of Django Reinhardt with the Ellington Orchestra in 1946 at Carnegie Hall.
